Abstract:
Studies have shown the possibility of reducing nitrogen fertilization in corn crop under no-tillage system in succession to cover crops. Thus, seeking to generate information on the subject, this study aimed to evaluate nitrogen fertilization in maize crop grown in succession to cover crops in southwestern Goiás. The experiment was conducted at the Federal University of Goiás, Jataí Regional, using a randomized block design with 4 replications in split plot scheme. The treatments allocated to the plots were 10 cover crops (Cajanus cajan, Canavalia ensiformis, Crambe abyssinica, Crotalaria juncea, Crotalaria ochroleuca, Crotalaria spectabilis, Mucuna aterrima, Pennisetum glaucum, Raphanus sativus and Urochloa ruziziensis). The treatments allocated to the subplots were 4 N rates (0, 50, 100 and 150 kg ha-1 N) applied at the V5 development stage of the crop, totaling 40 treatments. Covering plants did not reduce the initial stand and did not influence chlorophyll content, leaf N content and yield components of corn crop. In no-tillage system, nitrogen fertilization had little or no effect on the morphoagronomic components and yield components of corn crop. Corn grown in succession to Urochloa ruziziensis and Crambe abyssinica showed lower yields. Nitrogen fertilization in no-tillage system promoted increases in corn crop yield.
