Abstract:

In the aim to evaluate the performance of 14 lettuce cultivars of the curly group (Alcione, Bruna, Coral, Cristina, Isabela, Milena, Solaris, SVR-2005, TE-70, Thaís, Valentina, Vanda, Veneranda and Vera) grown in summer time in the Jataí-GO municipality. The experiment was set up in a randomized block design with 4 replications. The following characteristics were evaluated: plant height and diameter, leaf number, stem length and diameter, total and commercial fresh mass and dry matter content. There was no significant effect of cultivars on plant height, diameter and dry matter content. The cultivar Valentina, with 37 leaves plant-1, stood out from the others. Regarding stem length, the cultivars Alcione, Bruna, Isabela, Milena, SVR-2005, Thais and Vera presented suitable sizes for commercialization. The cultivars Isabela, Milena, Valentina and Vanda presented higher value for stem diameter. Alcione, Coral, Isabela, SVR-2005, TE-70, Thaís, Valentina and Vanda cultivars presented higher total fresh mass than the other cultivars. The cultivars Alcione, Valentina and Vanda, with commercial fresh mass yield ranging between 290.3 and 324.8 g plant-1, were more productive than the other cultivars. For summer cultivation, all evaluated cultivars presented commercial standard for “in natura” market, but Alcione (324.8 g plant-1), Valentina (302.3 g plant-1) and Vanda (290, 3 g plant-1) presented the highest commercial fresh mass.
