Abstract
With the advancement of agricultural frontiers in Brazil, it is common to occur the passion fruit orchards coexistence with other crops that act as hosts of disease vectors. The aim of this study was to report the introduction of the passion fruit woodiness disease (Cowpea aphid-borne mosaic virus - CABMV) in Jataí – GO, as well as to describe the symptoms in leaves and fruits, besides to evaluate the fruit production and quality of passion fruit with and without the virus. A report of the passion fruit woodiness disease in Jataí was presented, detailing the occurrence and presenting the main symptoms. In order to determine the influence of passion fruit woodiness disease on fruit quality, the physical and chemical characteristics of fruit and pulp of a genotype of sour passion fruit and a commercial cultivar of sour passion fruit (FB 200) were evaluated. The experimental design was randomized blocks with five replications. The fruits were harvested in two crop seasons, one with and other without the virus, and evaluated for physical and chemical characteristics. The results were submitted to analysis of variance and correlation. Serological analysis confirmed that 100% of the plants were infected with CABMV. The passion fruit woodiness disease affects directly the fruit quality.
